"Beautiful" card tutorial

The January stamp of the month is GORGEOUS!! So is the new Wings paper. I like it because it reminds me of tapestry, the color scheme is very different too, just makes me think of warm winter nights by the fireplace, curled up with a good book on a cozy chair.

To make this card you can cut your paper as follows;

Vineyard berry cardstock - 4 1/4 by 5 1/2

Colonial white cardstock - 8 1/2 by 5 1/2 folded in half to make the card base

Black cardstock - 4 x 5 1/4

"Tapestry" pattern paper - 5 1/2 by 2

Vineyard berry cardstock - 5 1/2 by 1 1/2

2 extra 3 x 3 pieces of colonial white cardstock for stamping

Distress all edges with black ink.

Using your dry embossing tool and the groove on your trimmer, draw lines in the black paper.

Sand to show white core.

Round two of the corners with your corner rounder as shown and glue to large vineyard berry card front.

Glue tapestry paper 3/4 of an inch from the bottom of the card. Glue vineyard berry cardstock strip in center of tapestry paper.

Using black ink, stamp the word, "beautiful," on the lower right of the vineyard berry cardstock strip.

Using sponge dauber, rub ink on the butterfly stamp. I used sweet leaf, vineyard berry and juniper ink. Put the colors wherever you like.

Once finished, "huff" on the stamp with your breath to rewetten and stamp on colonial white cardstock paper.

Now you need to make a mask or else you'll have to cut out those tiny antennae which is a big pain! You only need to re-stamp the top half of the butterfly. Cut both butterflies out without the antennae.

There are a couple of ways to do this. You can stamp the butterflies antennae on your card first and then line up your colorful butterfly over it. This is the better way. I wish I'd done it that way but I was inventing the card as I went so I glued my colorful butterfly down first and decided to mask it to stamp the antennae over the top of the mask. If you decide to do it that way, cut out both butterflies, glue the colorful one down first and then, using temporary adhesive, glue the top part of the masking butterfly over it.

Ink the top part of the butterfly stamp with white daisy ink.

Stamp it over the masking butterfly. You might have to press on the back of your card to get a good impression. You can see I missed the bottom part of the antennae. I took a blending pen and a bit of the ink to finish up the missing part.

Glue the card front to your card base before glittering. Use a glue pen to add glue wherever you'd like a bit of glitter. The white daisy ink doesn't need to be glued as it stays wet.

I'm getting a little sentimental about the Summer catalog because I've seen the new Fall one and know that the new sets of paper will soon become my new favorites and Back Country will fall by the wayside a bit so in honor of my favorite paper from the Summer catalog, here's a new card!

You need to choose your favorite paper set and cut them with these measurements.

Patterned paper #1 - 2 1/4" by 2 1/4" and 1 1/2" by 5 1/2".
Patterned paper #2 - 3" by 5 1/2".
White or off white cardstock - 1 1/2" by 2 3/4".
Darker cardstock - 1/2" by 5 1/2" and 1 3/4" by 3".
White or off white cardstock for card base 8 1/2" by 5 1/2", fold in half.
Distress everything with a dark ink like Outdoor Denim if desired.

Attach the 3" x 5 1/2" piece to top of the card, keeping it flush with the two sides and top of the card. Always work from the fold down.

Next put the 1 1/2" by 5 1/2" piece flush with bottom of the card.

Add 1/2" by 5 1/2" strip along the border created by the two other papers.

Attach the 2 1/4" by 2 1/4" one half inch from the right hand side of the card centered between top and bottom of the 3" x 5 1/2" piece.

Glue off white piece to the 1 3/4" by 3" piece. Using the You're a Hoot set, stamp the branch across the bottom of the paper with Olive ink.

Stamp the smallest owl and the "whoohoo" word, using Outdoor Denim and Barn Red inks respectively. Attach to the left hand side of the card, 1/2" from the top and left side.


Add five buttons at the bottom of the card after threading them with waxy flax in color of your choice. Attach with glue dots. You're done, woohoo!!
